Sinn Féin delivers – Carthy welcomes
opening of MABS advice centre in Athy
29 January, 2014 - by Matt Carthy (EU candidate)
The Sinn Féin Midlands North West EU
candidate, Matt Carthy, has welcomed the decision of the
Money Advice and Budgeting Service (MABS) to open a branch in Athy, Co.
Kildare.
The decision came after a Sinn
Féin public meeting in Athy where the public expressed their wish for such a
service in the town.
From the 12 February MABS
will now hold clinics every Wednesday in the Athy Resource Centre, Woodstock
Street from 9-4pm.
Speaking today Cllr Carthy
said:
“I
recently hosted an information night in Athy on the
issue of mortgage distress. People from across the county came to hear the
expert advice that was on offer from both MABS and the Irish Mortgage Holders
Association. One of the views expressed on the night was a call for MABS to
open an advice clinic in Athy.
“I can now confirm that MABS
have taken on board these calls and decided to return to Athy to offer help and
advice to people in mortgage distress. This service will be beneficial to the
people of the town and I am pleased that Sinn Féin was able to help support
this in some way
“I want to thank local Sinn Féin
Councillors Thomas Redmond and Ger Kelly for pursuing this matter.”
