Sinn Féin has announced details of
its participation in the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co
Laois, this week.
The party’s spokesperson on agriculture, Martin Ferris TD, said:
“We will be launching our Rural Ireland
discussion document at the Ploughing on Thursday. Sinn Féin president, Gerry
Adams TD, will be with us on Thursday at noon for that.
“Meanwhile, over the three days, our
elected representatives will be visiting the Sinn Féin stand at S297, to meet
people and to answer questions about our policies and activities.
“The austerity policies of the
coalition government have had a severe effect on rural Ireland, the same as in
the cities and towns. We are proposing alternatives in our
rural Ireland discussion document and in our alternative budget which will be
published shortly.
“Meanwhile, we are all looking
forward to the Ploughing, which has proven itself to be the main event of the
year in rural Ireland. As always, we stand in awe of the organisational ability
of Anna May McHugh, her daughter Anna Marie and the National Ploughing
Association.
“See you at the Ploughin’!”
