Sinn Féin spokesperson on environment, community and local
government, Brian Stanley TD, today will host a presentation in Leinster House
in support of his campaign to end the fluoridation of our drinking water.
Stanley said:
“In May I introduced the Health Fluoridation of
Water Supplies Repeal Bill 2013. If passed, this bill will ensure that
fluoridation is no more.
The fluoridation of
our water started in 1964. It was a crude way of medicating the public with
fluoride. Consecutive governments have had the public drinking fluoride for 50
years without consent.
“There has been wide spread opposition to fluoridation
since Gladys Ryan took her case to the High Court in 1964 on the basis that
citizens had no choice but to drink medicated water. It is time to stop this
mass medication.
“I am delighted to have two leading campaigners in Leinster
House adding weight to our campaign. Both Aishling Fitzgibbon, aka Girl against
Fluoride, and leading environmental scientist Declan Waugh.
“The evidence is there for all to see. Ireland is only one of
four EU states that support fluoridation of water.
Switzerland was the
last European country to end fluoridation in 2000. Public water supplies in the
north are not fluoridated.
“The EU Commission of Health and Consumers stated that,
‘people do not need fluoride for normal growth and development’. The European
Court of Justice has defined fluoridation as a medication and has refused to
sanction its implementation. Yet our government continues to impose fluoride on
the population at a cost of €4.8 million per annum.
“This is not a party political issue. Today is about seeking
cross party support for a bill that will improve public health.”

At last SF is doing something about fluoridation.
ReplyDeletePerhaps now Brian Stanley will also look at water quality in Mountmellick and Laois in general?
Few people know that fluoride maims and kills. Dentists wouldn’t want you worrying your little head off, and possibly scaring you away from twice-yearly insurance-paid-whether-you-need-it-or-not treatments and those horrible toxic doses (26,000 ppm) of fluoride varnish they paint on babies' teeth. Fluoride’s toxicity is downplayed-–or worse, never mentioned. That way everyone stays happy including organized dentistry’s biggest benefactors--toothpaste makers, and the media and legislators supported by the same benefactors.
